We use lots of water in our homes, but we're challenging you to see where you can save.
1. Make sure you turn the tap off while you brush your teeth. A running tap wastes up to six litres of water a minute. Plug your sink basin when washing or shaving, and save up to 12 litres of water.
2. Around one-third of all water used in the home goes down the toilet. If you have a dual flush system, make sure you use the short flush (usually the smaller button) when possible. Check if your toilet is leaking.
3. Watch what you put down the toilet. Flushing items like wet wipes and sanitary towels down the toilet result in most blockages. Only toilet paper, pee and poo go down the loo!
4. A bath can use as much as 80 litres. Take a shower instead, and save around 10 litres of water.
5. Reducing your time in the shower can save up to 18 litres of water, depending on the type of shower. Ask for one of our shower timers here.
6. Use a bowl when washing up by hand, instead of running the tap. This can save 18 litres of water. Use a bowl of water to wash your fruit and vegetables. This can save seven litres of water.
7. Fit a tap adaptor to allow a spray flow. Order yours here.
8. When using your washing machine, make sure you use the half load setting when you need to wash less.
9. If you're replacing your washing machine or dishwasher, check the eco-labels for energy and water consumption. Always try to buy one that is A rated.
10. Water is essential to support healthy bodies and minds. Keep water in a covered jug or bottle in the fridge, for up to 24 hours, so you won't need to run the tap every time you want a drink.
