Use water wisely

Warm weather advice

Warm weather advice

Please use water wisely as warm weather continues.

We are asking our customers to keep using water wisely as the current spell of warm and dry weather continues.

We are continuing to do all we can to maintain water supplies, and our reservoir and groundwater levels are being monitored constantly.

We have not seen any measurable rainfall in the region since the beginning of June 2018, and the demand for water has been 20% higher than it would normally be for this time of year.

We do not have a hosepipe ban in place, but to keep the water flowing we still need your help to save as much as we can.

Even small changes can make a big difference, so check out some of our top tips for saving water in the home and garden –

• Water plants in the evening to retain moisture in the soil

• Turn off the tap when brushing your teeth and save 6 litres of water each time

• Shower rather than bath and save 10 litres every time

• Take shorter showers (aim for four minutes per day) – this can save up to 17 litres per day

• Only use full loads in your dishwasher and washing machine

• Sprinklers can use up to 1,000 litres of water per hour – that’s more than an entire family of four uses in a whole day! Stick to the trusty bucket and watering can in the garden instead

• If you’re going to use the kettle only boil as much water as you need – this will save water and energy

• Use a bucket rather than a hose to wash the car

• Use a bowl when hand washing dishes to save 7 litres every time

• Replace washers on dripping taps - they can waste up to 26 litres of water in 24 hours - that′s enough for a shower!

Warmer weather causes ground movement which can lead to burst pipes. Our engineers are working around the clock to find and fix leaks, but you can help us out by reporting these as soon as you see them. The easiest way to do this is by calling our leak line on 0800 393 084. You can find out more about leaks and report them online here - www.nwl.co.uk/your-home/report-a-leak.aspx
