Point of connection
Our point of connection service looks closely at the impact a proposed development could have on our existing water network.

This includes the proposed developments supporting assets, and will also identify or confirm the practicality of the proposed point of connection.

 

Our service will also highlight if network reinforcement is needed to serve the development.

Pre-Planning Enquiries

Where a development is in the early stages, we also offer a Pre-Planning Enquiry service.

 

This service offers initial information on the availability of water in the area and network capacity to serve a development.

 

Before submitting your request, please read the Pre-Planning Enquiry and Point of Connection Guidance notes. These notes explain the procedures in more detail and can help you decide which is the most appropriate service for you.

 

Don't forget to attach supporting layout and location plans to your application form.

 

Once you've completed your application, please return it with any accompanying plans or schedules to our Development Control email address: developmentenquiries@nwl.co.uk.

When should I make a Pre-planning Enquiry?

Pre-planning Enquiries are only required for developments of 

3 or more properties (or the equivalent in terms of commercial and industrial developments). If your development is smaller please go directly to the Adoption of a New Sewer and / or New Water Supplies sections on our website.

How much will it cost?

The fee varies depending whether your enquiry relates to a water supply, sewerage or both. In the case of water supply only, the fee increases with the number of houses. For sewerage only, or water and sewerage, the fee is fixed.

How long will it take to get a response?

We will acknowledge receipt of your application (completed form, fee and scaled location plan) within 5 days. Your enquiry will have a unique reference number.

 

A response to your enquiry will be given as follows:


Water Supply enquiry: 

We will respond to you within 21 days of receipt of a completed application.


Sewerage enquiry: 

We will respond to you within 21 days of receipt of a completed application.


Combined Water Supply and Sewerage enquiry:

We will respond to you within 21 days, you may receive responses for sewerage and water separately.

 

If more detailed investigations are required before we can give you a full response, we will notify you of this and provide an estimate of when a response to the enquiry will be given.

 

Please Note: we will only process your enquiry if the form is completed and fee and site plan included. Incomplete enquiries may need to be returned to you for more information, resulting in a delay to the response.
