Cemetery visitors advised of road closure

03 November 2014

Visitors to a South Tyneside cemetery are being reminded of a road closure and diversion in place over the winter months.

Cemetery Approach, the main access road to Harton Cemetery in South Shields, is closed while Northumbrian Water carries out major flood alleviation works in the area.

The works are expected to be completed by the end of February.

The main gates to the cemetery will remain open to vehicles for the duration of the works and a diversion has been put in place directing vehicles along Grosvenor Road and St George’s Avenue.

Cemetery Approach will be temporarily re-opened to vehicles over the Christmas and New Year period, from 19 December to 5 January.

Streets also affected by the works include Mayfair Gardens, Sunderland Road, King George Road and Page Avenue.

The Council is working with Northumbrian Water to keep disruption to a minimum.
