A family fun day on Whitley Bay seafront will celebrate World Clean Up Day and the end of a week of beach cleaning by employees of Northumbrian Water and Metro Radio.
The event, on Saturday, September 15, will feature an outdoor cinema, with screenings of Finding Nemo and The Little Mermaid,* plus entertainment and games, with activities from 10am to 4pm.
There will be funfair rides, a chance to get up close and personal with creatures from Blue Reef Aquarium, and photograph opportunities with a Jack Sparrow lookalike and mermaids.
The week of activities has been aimed at making the North East Coast an even nicer place to visit, as well as encouraging people to get involved with Northumbrian Water′s Refill campaign run in conjunction with City To Sea.
Debbie Mitchell, Northumbrian Water′s Marketing Brand Strategy Manager, said: "During the course of the week, our people have been working with Metro Radio and members of the public to carry out beach cleans up and down the North East coast, so the family fun day is a great way to wrap that up.
"At Whitley Bay, we have more than a dozen Refill Stations - cafes, restaurants or other businesses where people can take their refillable water bottles, to top up for free - so this is a great opportunity for people to have a fun day out and maybe try using Refill for the first time."
Refill is a campaign aimed at reducing single use plastics by creating a network of Refill Stations around the country, where people can take their refillable water bottles and fill up for free.
As well as the two feature films, a big screen on the sea front will be showing a number of videos, including footage from the BBC′s Blue Planet II series, which has been provided with support from the promoters of the Blue Planet II Arena Tour, which is coming to the Metro Radio Arena in March 2019.
People can find out more about Refill at www.refill.org.uk or download the Refill app to find their nearest station.
*Finding Nemo will be shown at 10.30am, Little Mermaid starts at 1.30pm.
