Tyneside water network upgrades moves on to Clayton Road

As part of Northumbrian Water′s £6 million investment scheme to upgrade Tyneside′s water network work will start on Monday, January 15 at Clayton Road in Newcastle.

A road closure will be in place between Great North Road and Clayton Road for eleven weeks, from Monday, January 15 to Friday, April 27, although all efforts will be made to complete the work as early as possible.

As part of this essential work, the water company′s contract partner, ESH-MWH, will be installing an electrically controlled value (EOV) and communication kiosk in the carriageway of Clayton Road - Great North Road junction.

The work taking place will allow the water company to use remote operation to allow greater flexibility within the water network and is part of a wider two year programme which start in July 2017 and runs until March 2019. It will also build on the £60 million cleaning programme completed in 2016 with the ultimate aim to reduce and minimise discoloured water from customer′s taps.

Richard Johnston, Northumbrian Water′s Project Manager, said: "We are sorry for the inconvenience and disruption this work will cause residents, businesses and commuters and we thank them for their patience while we carry out this essential works. We are working closely with our contractors and the council to make sure any disruption is kept to a minimum during the course of the work. If customers would like to find out more about the work they can visit our community portal for regular updates."
