£3M investment in Northumberland sewage treatment works

Northumbrian Water is investing more than £3 million in upgrades to Pegswood sewage treatment works (stw) in Northumberland.

The work at Pegswood STW will help to improve the quality of the Bothal Burn for the benefit of the people, the environment and wildlife.

Work started at the end of May and our trusted partner, Mott MacDonald Bentley (MMB), will be carrying out the work to improve the site, which will be phased across 20 months. The project includes the installation of a new tank and apparatus as well as the upgrade of existing equipment.

Residents and allotment owners may see an increase in traffic during this work and in order to keep residents up to date on the project a community portal has been set up, www.nwlcommunityportal.co.uk.

On the portal, customers can ask questions, make comments and find out when deliveries are planned, especially when large pieces of material or plant are being delivered. In order to reduce the disturbance to the village, Northumbrian Water has requested that all deliveries must come via the new by-pass and not through Pegswood Village.

Nick Tudberry, Project Manager at Northumbrian Water, said: “We are focused on providing the best possible service to our customers and the communities we work in. This investment at our sewage treatment works will help us to deliver upon that aim as well as help to improve the quality of rivers and coastal waters in the area.”
