Northumbrian Water is to reduce the risk of flooding to 21 homes in Hebburn.
The four-month scheme, which is the first part of a two-phase project, will begin on Tuesday August 27 2013.
The work will involve installing 300 metres of new sewer pipe along sections of Windermere Crescent, Grasmere Road and in the grass verge adjacent to Coniston Avenue. An additional storm water storage pipe will also be installed in Thirlmere Court.
Residents are invited to find out more about the work at a customer event being held on Tuesday August 6 2013 at Hebburn Lakes Primary School, Campbell Park Road, Hebburn, between 1.00pm and 7.00pm.
Residents affected by the work will receive a letter and invitation to the customer event in writing.
Elaine Smith, Northumbrian Water’s project manager, said: "We appreciate the distress that flooding can cause our customers and we are committed to reducing the impact of flooding. Between 2010 and 2015 we will be investing £150 million to tackle flooding across our region.
"I encourage residents to come along to our customer event so they can find out more about how this work will impact on them and ask any questions they may have."
It will be necessary to have traffic management in place during the course of this essential work. Road closures will be in place at various times on sections of Windermere Crescent, Grasmere Road and Coniston Avenue. The water company’s contractor, Seymour Civil Engineering Construction Ltd, will let residents know in advance when this traffic management will be in place and if they need the road to be clear of vehicles.
Construction traffic will need access to the area where improvement work is being carried out and to the site compound, which is to be located in land between Coniston Avenue and Campbell Park Road.
Customers who require further information should call Northumbrian Water’s customer centre on 0845 717 1100 or visit www.nwl.co.uk.
Northumbrian Water will not need to gain access into customers’ homes while this work is carried out and residents should be vigilant of bogus callers posing as officials from the water company.
