Christmas windfall for water customer


A Northumbrian Water customer from Newcastle upon Tyne has won a cash prize of £500 simply by cutting out paper bills.

Jonathan Hall, from Shiremoor, was selected at random from more than 1,800 business and domestic customers who signed up for the water company’s electronic billing service between May and September 2012.

Northumbrian Water’s free, e-billing service, which was launched in 2007, allows customers to view, pay and manage bills securely online, with an e-mail alert when new bills arrive. More than 33,500 Northumbrian Water customers are currently using this service.

Winner, Jonathan Hall, said: “I signed up for the service to save on paper bills and am delighted to have won £500. It has come at a perfect time in the run-up to Christmas.”

The competition, which was sponsored by billing software provider MyBillsOnline, was an incentive to encourage customers to ditch traditional paper bills in favour of a simple, hassle-free and paper saving online option.

Northumbrian Water’s free, e-billing service is currently available to all customers who bank with either Lloyds TSB, The Royal Bank of Scotland or NatWest. Customers of other banks can also manage their bills online through the MyBillsOnline service direct from the Northumbrian Water’s website.

The customer friendly service includes:

• receiving bills on-line;

• receiving email alerts when a new bill arrives;

• viewing bill details from multiple companies (only if you register via your bank);

• making payments when it is convenient to you;

• keeping an on-line record of multiple bills
