A six month scheme to help prevent sewer flooding will begin on Monday June 11 2012.
Northumbrian Water has announced it is investing £1.4million to upgrade the sewerage network in the Peterlee area. The improvement scheme will involve installing a total of 587 metres of new sewer pipe at Fulwell Road, Manor Way, Eastdene Way and Chilton Garth.
The company is also building two underground storm water storage tanks at Fulwell Road between Hatfield Place and Chilton Garth.
Customers are invited to find out more about the work and raise any questions or concerns they may have at a customer information session on Wednesday May 30 2012 at Peterlee Methodist Church Hall, Bede Way, Peterlee, SR8 1AD between 3.00pm and 7.00pm.
Ian Cunliffe, Northumbrian Water’s project manager for the scheme, said: “Flooding is extremely distressing to customers and something we invest millions of pounds on every year to help reduce risk.
“As with all essential work, some temporary traffic management is necessary. Everything will be done to reduce impact on residents and we appreciate their patience while we are working in this area.”
All traffic management dates are provisional and subject to change.

Construction traffic will need access to the site where improvement work is being carried out and to the site compound off Manor Way. The Chilton Garth tank will be accessed through Hatfield Place.
At various dates throughout the construction period it will be necessary to close the footpaths on Fulwell Road, Manor Way, Eastdene Way, Chilton Garth and Hatfield Place. There will be signed diversions for pedestrians and temporary access track from Hatfield Place to The Garden of Eden Cottage.
Residents in the affected area will receive information about the work. Customers who require further advice or have any special needs should ring Northumbrian Water on 0845 717 1100 or log on to www.nwl.co.uk.
It is very unlikely that anyone from Northumbrian Water will need to gain access into customers’ homes while the work is being carried out in the Peterlee area. If customers are in any doubt of a caller claiming to be from the water company, they should not let them into their home and instead should call the customer centre on 0845 717 1100 to confirm the caller’s identity.
