Two top level appointments have been made by Northumbrian Water.

Both of the new directors have taken up their posts at the company’s Durham head office.

Sarah Salter is the new Group Human Resources Director and Dr Maxine Mayhew is Group Commercial Director.

Chief Executive Officer Heidi Mottram said: “I am delighted to have such talented and experienced professionals join our management team. Their knowledge, enthusiasm and talent will add to that of the much respected existing team to lead our first class award-winning company to even greater heights.”

Sarah Salter has taken over from her predecessor who left last year and Maxine Mayhew’s Commercial Director role is a newly created post.

The new directors have group-wide responsibilities including in the North East, Essex and Suffolk, Scotland, Ireland and Gibraltar.

Sarah Salter, from Preston, Lancashire, began her career with Rowntree Mackintosh as a graduate trainee in Essex as a confectionery sales representative.

She moved into HR, holding a variety of roles in Rowntree and Nestlé for fifteen years before taking up the role of HR Director for Northern Foods based in Cumbria. Prior to joining Northumbrian Water, Sarah was Group HR Director at Places for People, a national property management and development company.

After completing a PhD in water science, Maxine Mayhew, from South Woodham Ferres, near Chelmsford, Essex, has been working at United Utilities where she has held a wide range of roles over fourteen years.

She joins Northumbrian Water, which is at the forefront of the industry for the scale of its energy from sewage waste operation, with particular production experience having already lead a technical project in Advanced Anaerobic Digestion (AAD) - the energy creation process. One of her key roles will be to further develop co-digestion opportunities.

Maxine Mayhew has also been operations director on commercial Private Finance Initiatives (PFI), further invaluable experience as she works to manage and grow Northumbrian Water Group’s business in this field which already has contracts in Scotland and Ireland.
