Pumping investment

16.05.2011

Work to maintain the sewer network in Sunderland is to begin next week.

Northumbrian Water is to carry out work on two pumping stations in Whitburn.

The £236,000 scheme, which will begin on Monday May 23 2011 and take up to two months to complete, will involve renovating mechanical equipment at Whitburn Steel and Bents pumping stations.

Project manager for the improvement work, Simon Cossar, said: "All the work at Whitburn Steel pumping station, which is located in the public car park at the south end of Whitburn opposite the public park, will be contained within the building.

"We need to install a new electrical panel at Bents pumping station which will result in having to temporarily close the bus stop on the southbound carriageway of the A183, opposite 21 Whitburn Bents Road, for up to one week during the course of the work.

"Residents should be reassured that we will do all we can to keep any disruption to a minimum."

Traffic associated with the work will require access to working areas.

Employees from the water company and their contractor, Byzak Limited, will not require access into residents’ homes while this work is being done.
