All the family can ′Walk for life′

A family fun charity challenge called ‘Walk for Life’ will take place in Kielder Water & Forest Park next month.

Bookings are now being taken for the Northumbrian Water-organised event along 7.6 miles of shoreline of Kielder Water, Northumberland, on Sunday 6 September.

The walk, providing stunning unspoilt views of northern europe’s largest man-made lake, will raise money for charities, WaterAid and Macmillan Cancer Support. All taking part can also choose to raise sponsorship for their own nominated charity as well.

‘Walk for Life’ is suitable for all ages and for pushchairs and wheelchairs too, and follows a section of the new multi-user Lakeside Way trail which is well-surfaced and accessible to all.

Stewards will marshal the event, there will be first aid cover, bottled water will be provided and medals, exclusive event t-shirts and goodie bags presented.

It will start at the dam at 10am and finish at Leaplish Waterside Park and can be expected to take between two hours for faster elite walkers and up to six hours for a leisurely family stroll with pushchairs.

The entry fee is £15 for adults and £7.50 for children under 16-years-old. Children under eight are free but they will not receive a t-shirt, medal and goodie bag. Ten pounds from every adult entry and £2.50 from each child entry will go to the nominated charities.

Places must be booked in advance. For further information and a ‘Walk for Life’ entry pack telephone 08451-550-236 (Monday to Friday 9am – 5pm) or on line or by email to

Alistair Baker for WaterAid and Northumbrian Water, said: “Walk for Life’ will raise money for the two nominated charities - both at home and overseas - and also give all walkers the chance to collect sponsorship for their own good causes as well, while enjoying some of the most spectacular scenery in the country.”

The Lakeside Way trail is a new attraction for Kielder Water & Forest Park that stretches all the way round 27 miles of shoreline.

‘Walk for Life’ is part of a nine-day, sixteen-walk festival in Kielder Water & Forest Park.  For more details on line or ring 01434-250-209.
