Fighting flooding

15.06.2009

Seventeen homes are to be protected from flooding and local residents are invited to find out about the work.

Northumbrian Water is to invest £800,000 to upgrade the sewerage network in Shiney Row.

The work, which is to begin week commencing Monday, July 13 2009 and take up to five months to complete, will reduce the likelihood of flooding to 17 properties in Park View and Eden Terrace.

Residents in the area will receive detailed information in writing and an invitation to a customer information session to be held on Wednesday, June 24 2009 at Shiney Row Primary School, Rear South View, Shiney Row, DH4 4QP between 4.00pm and 7.00pm.

Northumbrian Water’s project manager, Simon Bligh, said:  “The scheme will involve 320 metres of new sewer pipe being installed and construction of a 275,000 litre storm water storage tank, both of which will increase the capacity of the sewerage network in times of heavy rainfall.

“The majority of this work will be carried out during school holidays to minimise inconvenience.  Our site compound is to be located and the tank is to be installed in land west of Hadleigh Court.  As a result the footpaths that run across this land will be closed.  Access to Shiney Row Primary School will be via the entrance off Galashields Grove.  We will maintain vehicle access to the front entrance of the school during term time.

“I encourage residents to come along to the customer information session to find out how the work will impact on them and to let us know about any special needs they may have.”

It will be necessary to have temporary traffic management in place during the course of this essential improvement work.  Please note that the below dates may change.
