The Run-Bike-Run is a relay event where 176 individuals and over 40 teams of three will tackle the marathon distance split into three parts – an 11km run, a 26km bike ride and a 5km run.

More than 200 bikes will be in use at the transition stations for the Run-Bike-Run!

Both events start and finish at Leaplish Waterside Park.

Sunday 5 October

Interview / photo opportunity: Former Olympic athlete and world record holder Steve Cram will be available for interviews on request.

The Kielder Marathon will start at 10.15am. There will be over 1,000 runners.

The Kielder Junior Runs will start at 11am at Leaplish Waterside Park.

The children’s events are in three separate age categories and will be held while the marathon is underway. The Osprey is an 800m run for under 10’s (minimum age seven), The Roman Mile will see under 13’s compete over 1.48km and The Centurion is a 2.5km race for under 16’s. Nearly 100 children will be participating in the events.

The official marathon distance is 26 miles and 385 yards and event organisers estimate that the best athletes will complete the race in less than two and a half hours. The event will start and finish at Northumbrian Water’s Leaplish Waterside Park and be part of a whole weekend of activities for all ages and abilities, with a big focus on attracting families to the site.

The medal presentation is expected to take place around 2.00pm adjacent to the finish line.

Images and film rushes on request: Still photographs of the weekend’s activities are available. Northumbrian Water can also provide film rushes – please contact Janine Scott on 0191 301 6713.

Race results will be sent out after the events.

Times are subject to change.
