NWG Academy

Here at Northumbrian Water, we work to make sure clean, clear and great tasting water is delivered to our 2.7 million customers’ homes, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and to take waste water away through our sewerage network to be treated and then returned to the environment in the best possible condition. You’ll be amazed by how many different activities and jobs are involved in achieving this.

The NWG Academy inspires, finds and develops people with talent, and helps retain knowledge in the business.

We plan to continue to deliver our services to the highest standards for many years to come and need the best people working with us to do this.

We want Northumbrian Water to be seen as a Great Place To Work by existing and prospective employees, now and in the future.

We work with schools, colleges, universities and other organisations in many different ways through our Just an Hour volunteering scheme, here are some examples of what we do:

• Enterprise Advisors
• School Governors
• STEM Ambassadors (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths)
• Business Ambassadors

We recognise how valuable it is to get a taste of what a workplace looks like and what people do at work. We welcome young people and teachers into the business as often as we can.

We may ask you to complete an application. This is all part of learning about the world of work and we may use the information you provide to select who we offer an opportunity to, where we have a lot of interest.

Please take a look at our opportunities area below.

Consistently for many years we’ve offered a small number of apprenticeships and graduate development programme places, where we expect to have future vacancies to fill.

In recent years we’ve worked with local colleges and on occasions taken on apprentices who have been made redundant by other employers to enable young people to complete a qualification and gain valuable work experience through one of our sponsored work placements.

We have typically had apprentices and sponsored work placements in Electrical or Mechanical Maintenance, IT, Project Management, Water Engineering, Science and Administration.

Graduates have typically had a numerate or specific engineering degree and have completed placements during their programmes in most areas of our business for example Customer Services, Project Management, Operations, Procurement, HR, Commercial.

We always advertise opportunities to join our apprentice development programme and graduate development programme on our Careers site and apprenticeships on the National Apprenticeship website www.findapprenticeship.service.gov.uk/apprenticeshipsearch.

We will use our NWG Academy to encourage and create opportunities for people from varied backgrounds.

Our vision is to be widely recognised as an inclusive employer.

Our key framework contractors, the companies we’ve signed up to work with over a 10 year period, have committed to participate with us in apprenticeships, work placement opportunities and other employee volunteering activities.

We know we can have more impact together.

Please take a look at our opportunities area below.

We will be encouraging some of our people who have been involved in volunteering work with young people during their employment to get involved with the NWG Academy once they retire.

They have such a wealth of experiences to share.

We recognise that we can play a part in building up some people’s confidence to apply for work. Please take a look at our opportunities area below, we will advertise any programmes there.
