Protecting customers from flooding.

Longbenton

Project status: Wednesday 14 December 2011

Northumbrian Water is committed to providing a high quality of service to its customers throughout the region and is investing hundreds of millions of pounds to upgrade the sewerage network and further improve the environment. As part of this investment our contractor, Seymour (Civil Engineering Contractors) Limited, will be carrying out essential work to upgrade the sewerage network in Longbenton.

The scheme, which will reduce the risk of flooding to 80 properties on Ashdown Close, Avondale Avenue, Aylesbury Place, Cambridge Avenue, Denbeigh Place, Glenfield Road, Goathland Avenue, Hailsham Avenue, Ongar Way, Radstock Place, Teesdale Grove, Wheatfield Grove and Widnes Place, will begin on Monday 10 January 2011 and take up to one year to complete. The work will involve installing 1,800 metres of new sewer pipe, upsizing 270 metres of existing sewer pipe and building an underground storage tank in land between Ongar Way and Quorum business park.

Will this work mean that flooding will never happen again?

It will substantially reduce the chance of flooding but will not completely remove the risk.

Will access to individual properties be required?

It is unusual for us or our contractors to require access into your property. We may need to access manholes on your private land.

Will access to individual properties be affected?

Vehicle access and parking may be restricted for short periods of time. Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times. If you have any special needs, please contact our customer centre on 0845 717 1100.

Will the construction cause disruption?

With such a big scheme it is inevitable that there will be some disruption, an increase in noise and of traffic in the area.

Will anything be visible once the work is complete?

The majority of the work will be underground and all roads within which excavations have taken place will be reinstated on completion of construction work, in accordance with the relevant specifications.

If you require any further information or advice, now or during the work, please contact our customer centre on 0845 717 1100. We will be pleased to help.
