It may not open for almost another year, but the new multimillion-pound Castle View Enterprise Academy has already been given top marks by Sunderland chairman Niall Quinn.
The Black Cats chief went up on an aerial platform to view the site where the purpose-built academy is being built.
Niall, who visited the development to give his backing to the ambitious plans, said: "It is really good for the children who will be studying here because they will be more productive and more ambitious because they feel better being in good spirits.
"They will feel more important that their life is moving in the right direction. They should get as much out of here while they are learning and carry the spirit of the new academy with them wherever they go in later life."
Later, Niall spoke to students who will attend the academy, which will replace Castle View School in September, when it is due to open.
"All children, including those who get the opportunity to go to the new academy, should go for the dream," said Niall.
"There will be hardship along the way but they should believe in themselves. Aspiration and belief goes up as the building goes up because it is visually happening on the site now and the kids are seeing it. Seeing is believing."
Janet Bridges, a County Durham headteacher who will lead the new academy, said Niall proved an inspiration to the students.
"It was great for him to come along," she said "It's good to know he's fully supportive of what we're doing here."
Northumbrian Water is the main sponsor for the Castle View Enterprise Academy, which is one of three being created in Sunderland as part of Sunderland City Council's £120million Building Schools for the Future programme.
