Choirs in full voice to delight audience and generate funds

14/12/2008

CONCERT goers braved the snow to see two choirs perform at Morpeth Methodist Church to raise money for flood victims.

Northumberland choirs Werca's Folk and VoiceMale came together, with some of the members making great efforts to travel to the town from remote parts of the County, and sang a selection of local, traditional and seasonal songs.

Main organiser Penni Blythe-Jones said: "Following the devastating floods that affected some of our members directly, we felt we should do something to help.

"Thanks to co-operation from Morpeth Methodist Church in making the premises available at no charge, Morpeth Lions Club for helping to promote the event and, of course, the choirs, we had a fantastic evening."

After the concert, a retiring collection was taken that brought the total raised for the Morpeth Flood Victims Appeal to £467.06.

• Another fundraising concert has been organised by Barry Swann of Morpeth Rotary Club for this Saturday from 7pm.

The venue will once again be Morpeth Methodist Church and it will feature the Northumbrian Water Ellington Brass Band.

Tickets for the evening cost £7, which includes refreshments at the end of the concert provided by Morpeth Inner Wheel.

The tickets are selling well, but some can still be obtained from Mackay Printers on Bridge Street.
