Sign up for charity event

31/03/2008

North East golfers are being urged to sign up for this year's Evening Chronicle Sunshine Fund Charity Day. The big event, which is also backed by Golf North East, is being staged at Longhirst Hall Golf Club in Northumberland on Friday, May 16 this year - and promises to be bigger and better than ever.

Last year's golf and charity extravaganza was staged at Whickham GC and proved a huge success, with over £3000 being raised for the Sunshine Fund, which supports local children's charities.

Longhirst Hall has kindly agreed to be the hosts for our big day in 2008, where four-man/woman teams will hope to get their names to the top of the leaderboard.

For a cost of £300 for a team of four, you can enjoy the superb Longhirst course, compete for top prizes and in doing so help our charity with their tireless efforts to create a better life for children across the region.

The Evening Chronicle Sunshine Fund is a well-established North East charity, which provides specially adapted equipment to improve the quality of life for children with disabilities or special needs.

The fund also provides grants to other registered organisations, health authorities and community groups that support needy children.

Since 1995, the charity has raised over £1 million, bringing a ray of sunshine for those less fortunate to lead a better life.

With a bacon buttie on arrival, 18 holes of golf, and a two-course meal followed by a presentation and raffle, our charity golf day promises to be another superb event.

Sunshine Fund manager Jo Harris said: "We'd really like to thank Longhirst Hall Golf Club for hosting this year's event, which we are planning to make even bigger and better. That's why we'd like teams to get their entries in straight away and really make a difference for local needy children. It really is a great cause to be involved with and we hope lots of North East golfers will again get behind us and enjoy some top quality golf too.

"We'd also like to thanks northumbrian water for supplying every entrant with a bottle of water."

So don't delay - get your teams together and book your place on the first tee for what promises to be another fantastic event.
