RUNNERS braved wintry conditions to compete in the fourth North Tyneside 10k Road Race.
Almost 2,000 people battled the elements to complete the run from the Parks Sports Centre, in North Shields, to St Mary's Lighthouse.
Organisers at North Tyneside Council believe the race, held this year on Easter Sunday, is one of the most scenic in the UK as it features stunning locations like Tynemouth Priory and North Shields Fish Quay before finishing at the lighthouse.
The race was won by Nick Swinburn, from Morpeth, in 33 minutes 21 seconds. Nathan Shrubb was second with last year's winner James Buis in third place.
First female over the line was Jessica Trowbridge, of Gateshead, in 37 minutes and 17 seconds.
Coun Eddie Darke, North Tyneside Council cabinet member for leisure, tourism, culture and communities, said: "The spirit and attitude of the runners was amazing, given the conditions.
"Everyone gave it their all and deserve a lot of credit for their approach to the race, which helped make it a success once again."
The race was supported by Northumbrian Water, North Shields Polytechnic and Start Fitness.
