A WATER company is investing £250,000 in a new village treatment works.

Northumbrian Water will be renewing the 50-year-old works at Great Stainton, near Darlington, which serves about 25 houses.

The project will modernise treatment process at the Glebe Road works, which treat waste water before discharging it into a tributary of Byresgill Beck.

The new works will be built on the existing site. Building work started on the project at the end of February and is expected to take about 30 weeks in total.

Cara Hall, spokeswoman for Northumbrian Water, said aside from a small increase in traffic to the site, no inconvenience for residents was anticipated.

"There shouldn't be much disruption for villagers, apart from a little increase in traffic flow to and from the site, but if anyone has got any questions or concerns, they can call us on 0845 717 1100."
