Air views on drainage study

06/03/2008

PEOPLE in Hartlepool are being invited to a public consultation event in the town when the initial findings of a drainage study will be unveiled.

Hartlepool is one of only fifteen areas in the country taking part in an ‘Integrated Urban Drainage’ pilot study funded by the Government.

Hartlepool Council, Northumbrian Water and the Environment Agency have all supported the study which will be completed in Spring 2008.

The aim of the study is to look at all of the issues affecting drainage, from national government legislation to local concerns - with the ultimate aim of having an efficient drainage system to meet future needs.

Members of the public have the chance to attend two presentations which will be held on Wednesday 27 February between 2.30 pm and 3.30 pm and 6.30 pm to 7.30 pm.  Following the brief presentations, there will be a question and answer session.

For those who prefer to attend an informal drop-in session, this will be held on the same day between 3.30 pm and 6.00 pm.  The venue for both is Hartlepool’s Maritime Experience (formerly Hartlepool Historic Quay) in the Marina.

Councillor Peter Jackson, the Council’s Cabinet member with responsibility for Neighbourhoods and Communities, said: “It is important that we look to the future and put the necessary plans and legislation in place for efficient drainage systems.

“The Council, Northumbrian Water and the Environment Agency are all working together on this initiative and it will be interesting to listen to other people’s ideas. Local people are welcome to come along to the presentations and drop-in session to air their views.”
