IT was a fair cop for retiring policeman George Cuthbertson when he helped switch on Morpeth's Christmas lights on Saturday.
The beat bobby, who is a familiar face in the town centre, steps down from the Northumbria Force at the end of the year, but was invited the share the switch-on honours with Fair Day fancy dress contest winner Anna Chisti.
The Northumbrian Water Ellington Colliery Bank got festivities under way with a selection of festive tunes.
After carol singing led by Morpeth's 'Four Tenors', some words from Town Council Chairman Mark Horton and a Christmas address by the Rector of Morpeth, the Rev Robert McLean, the button was pressed to start the display.
The Clock Tower Bellringers also brought a musical touch to the occasion.
