Customs House unveils a monster piece of art

24/10/2007

The Customs House Christmas panto (Jack and the Beanstalk) promises to be a real monster hit - thanks to a unique art project about to be unveiled at the Mill Dam theatre.

Eye of the Fly - a Pelaw based community project that works with young pupils and the unemployed - has been working alongside the Customs House to create a 20 foot aerosol painting of a giant monster bursting through a beanstalk.

The project, which is supported by Northumbrian Water, has taken six weeks from the concept stage to complete and will cover the front facia of the South Shields venue until the end of the panto’s run on January 6, 2008.

Alistair Baker, communications and pr manager for Northumbrian Water, said: “Northumbrian Water does not just supply customers with essential water and wastewater services.  We have invested in all areas of community life and take our corporate responsibility seriously.

“We are delighted to support this unique art installation which celebrates the creativity of the region’s young people, benefits the community and sows the seeds for a great panto season.”

You are invited to send a photographer to the official unveiling of the Eye of the Fly installation at the Customs House, Mill Dam, South Shields on Wednesday, October 24 at 10.30am.
