Password scheme

The password scheme offers you the opportunity to register a code word of your choice with us. This means that if it is necessary for an employee or contractor working on our behalf to call at your address, you will know they are legitimate if they know your password.

Recent research revealed that more than 50 per cent of bogus callers pose as water employees to get into people's homes.

It is very unlikely that anyone from Northumbrian Water would call at your home without making an appointment first, but there are some occasions when we are unable to do this and a password can provide additional security for you.

Reading your meter

If you have a water meter which is located inside your home, our meter reader will need access to read this.

Water quality

To ensure water quality is maintained to a high standard we are required to take water quality samples from a very small selection of properties on a daily basis. These samples will only be taken by one of our employees and they will be wearing a Northumbrian Water uniform.

Our employees carry official identity cards which we strongly advise you to check before letting anyone into your home.
