Village treatment upgrade
24/02/2010
Residents are being invited to find out more about work to upgrade sewage treatment facilities in a Northumberland village.
Northumbrian Water is to invest £600,000 to improve sewage treatment in Horncliffe Village.
The work, which is to begin on Monday, March 8 2010 and take up to four months, will involve moving and upgrading two septic tanks. The tanks, one north and one south of the village, serve more than one hundred properties.
Residents are invited to find out more and raise any questions they may have at a
customer information session on
Thursday, 4 March 2010 at
Horncliffe Village Hall, Main Street, Horncliffe between
4.00pm and
7.00pm.
David McDermott, Northumbrian Water’s project manager, said: “This work is part of our multi-million pound programme to ensure we provide effective and efficient wastewater treatment.
“The new tank located north of the village, near to the public footpath off Tofts Lane, will hold and treat up to 60,000 litres of wastewater. It will be completely underground and accessed by a new concrete road. The new tank located south of the village, on the bank of the River Tweed, will hold and treat up to 15,500 litres of wastewater.”
Construction traffic will need access to the sites where improvement work is being carried out and to the site compound, which will be located on land of just outside of the village near the electricity sub-station.
During the course of the work it will be necessary to close the public footpath between the Whitehouse and 1 Woodside Park and the footpath extending from Hazeldene Cottage to the River Tweed.
