Bridging the gap

19/02/2010

Work to upgrade the sewerage network and replace a section of sewer pipe in Barnard Castle is underway.

Northumbrian Water is installing 290 metres of new sewer pipe from The Lendings pumping station, westwards, towards Thorngate Bridge. The pipe will run along the side of the bridge and along a section of Thorngate to Gray Lane.

Paul Rutter, Northumbrian Water’s project manager, said: “The four month scheme is being carried out after the old sewer pipe, which was buried in the bed of the River Tees, burst.

“Residents should be reassured that we will do everything we can to keep disruption to a minimum. As part of this commitment, while we work on Thorngate Bridge, we will be working seven days a week and the bridge will remain open over the Easter period (Friday, April 2 2010 to Sunday, April 11 2010).”

During the course of the work it will be necessary to have traffic management in place.
