Investment in the pipeline for Wideopen residents

13/10/2008

Essential improvement work in North Tyneside will reduce the risk of flooding for residents.

Northumbrian Water is to invest £900,000 to construct and upgrade 880 metres of sewer pipe in Wideopen.

The work, which is part of Northumbrian Water’s £250 million programme to upgrade sections of the region’s vast sewerage network between 2005 - 2010, will reduce the risk of flooding to 17 properties in the Cranwell Drive and Worcester Way area.

Work will begin on Monday, October 20 2008 and take up to five months to complete.

Brian Ford, Northumbrian Water’s project manager, said: “Reducing the risk of property flooding is one of Northumbrian Water’s priorities and we appreciate that flooding does cause customers distress.

“We will do everything we can, through careful planning with North Tyneside Council, to keep disruption to a minimum.”

Traffic management required to enable the work to be carried out will include:

• a road closure between the junction of Ewesley Gardens and Cranwell Drive from Monday, November 3 2008 for up to five weeks;
• two-way traffic lights on the Great North Road, opposite Harrow Gardens, from Monday, December 1 2008 for up to two weeks;
• Harrow Gardens will be closed on weekdays from Monday, January 12 2009 for up to four weeks between 9.00am and 5.00pm;
• a 30-metre rolling road closure will be in place on Worcester Way, between the junctions with Norwich Avenue and Harrow Gardens from Monday, February 2 2009 for up to eight weeks.

It is very unlikely that anyone from the water company will need to gain access into customers’ homes while the work is being carried out in the Wideopen area. If customers are in any doubt of a caller claiming to be from the water company, they should not let them into their home. They should ring the company’s customer centre to confirm the caller’s identity.
