A talented water worker is brushing up on raising vital funds for charity.
Anne Roberts, who lives in Blyth and has worked for Northumbrian Water for six years, is one of many artists helping to raise money for Lifespan.
Dozens of artists from across the UK, including Anthony Gormley, Elizabeth Blackadder, Mary Fedden and Beryl Cook, have submitted work which is to be auctioned tomorrow evening and which will hopefully raise thousands of pounds.
Lifespan is a small North East charity which provides a range of services, including counselling and complementary therapies, for people with life-threatening illnesses and their families.
Anne has submitted one of the water-themed ‘mystery artworks’ to be sold for £20.00 each in a blind auction. Some of the mystery pieces are by well-known names and others by artists wanting to do their bit to help raise money for Lifespan which makes a huge difference to peoples’ lives at such a difficult time.
The 57-year-old graphic designer, who was born in Tynemouth, has always loved doing art and had a paint brush in her hand at the age of two! Her watercolour painting to be auctioned is of Blyth beach looking towards St Mary’s Island.
Inspired by the much needed work of Lifespan, Anne said: “Lifespan provides a service which is invaluable. I am pleased with the painting I have done for the auction, which is a fantastic idea and also a fun way to draw attention to artistic talent in our region.”
“I thoroughly enjoy doing art as I find it relaxing and have a very varied portfolio as I use oils, watercolours, acrylics, pencils and pen and wash! It is great that something which people love doing is to benefit people who desperately need support.”
Avril Trapp, director of Lifespan, said: “At the heart of all the excellent work and effort which has gone into the auction are the needs of each individual patient and family. Lifespan’s care and support is provided free of charge so we rely on events like this to raise funds. We are absolutely delighted with the response we have had from people and companies like Northumbrian Water who are one of the auction sponsors.”
The Lifespan Charity Auction takes place at 7.00pm on Thursday, October 9 2008 at the Biscuit Factory, Stoddart Street, Newcastle upon Tyne. For further information on the charity log onto www.lifespanteam.org.uk
