Northumbrian Water is committed to providing a high quality of service to its customers throughout the region and is investing millions of pounds to upgrade the sewerage network and further improve the environment.
As part of this investment, our contractors Lumsden & Carroll Construction Limited, will be carrying out essential improvement work to the sewerage network in the Robson Terrace area of Shincliffe Village.
The £50,000 improvement scheme will begin on Monday, 6 October 2008 and last up to eight weeks.
The improvement work will involve constructing a new a combined sewer overflow and constructing 26 metres of new sewer pipe along Robson Terrace.
Combined sewer overflows are designed, and consented by the Environment Agency, to discharge wastewater into watercourses in times of very heavy rainfall to protect properties and surrounding land from flooding. The work to upgrade the combined sewer overflows, which will involve fitting them with screens, will also improve the water quality of the River Wear.
During the course of the work it will be necessary to close a section of Robson Terrace, alongside the village green, from the junction with High Street to outside number nine Robson Terrace (as shown on the attached plan).
We will make every effort, through careful planning, to minimise any inconvenience to you while this work is carried out.
It is unlikely that employees from Northumbrian Water, or our contractors, will require access to your home at any time during the work. We may need to access manholes which may be located in your drive and garden areas.
If you require any further information or advice, now or during the work, please contact our Customer Centre on 0845 717 1100. We will be pleased to help.
