Kind hearted tanker drivers have filled more than just tanks for a County Durham School.
St Josephs RCVA Primary School, Coundon, Bishop Auckland have received more than 4,000 supermarket Active Kids vouchers.
Eleven tanker drivers from Northumbrian Water, who operate in the Durham area, took the opportunity to collect the vouchers every time the tanks were filled with diesel at Sainsbury’s, Pity Me, Durham.
Due to the tanks covering more than 3,000 miles per month, it took less than three months to collect the vouchers, which the school have chosen to use to buy playground equipment.
It was decided that the vouchers should go to St Josephs RCVA Primary School as it was recently named Northumbrian Water’s School of the Year in this years regional Schools Awards.
Stefa McManners, Head Teacher, St Josephs RCVA Primary School said: “Receiving the vouchers from Northumbrian Water is great recognition for everyone in the school. It’s great for an external company to acknowledge the hard work put in by the whole school and make everyone in the school feel great.”
Angus Montgomery, Sludge Transportation Team Leader, Northumbrian Water said: “As it costs around £1,000 per month for diesel for each of our tankers, it seemed a shame not collect the Kids Active vouchers as it would benefit a local school with some new equipment.”
Northumbrian Water has recently scooped two prestigious awards at Business in the Community’s Awards for Excellence 2008, placing the company as the number one multi-utility business in the UK for corporate responsibility.
