Triple peak achievement

21/07/2008

Water workers have successfully climbed the three highest mountains in England, Scotland and Wales within the space of 24 hours, smashing their fundraising target in the process.

By completing ‘The Three Peaks Challenge’, the ‘Summit’s Up’ team from Northumbrian Water has raised in excess of £12,000 for the Calvert Trust in Kielder Water & Forest Park, more than double the anticipated target.

After almost 10,000 ft of ascent and descent, 26 miles of walking and 1,060 miles of driving, the team of twelve Northumbrian Water staff and members of their families just beat the clock finishing in 23 hours and 50 minutes.

Chris Green, finance director at Northumbrian Water, said: “We’re delighted to have made it, especially with 10 minutes to spare!”

The team, supported by two drivers, completed Ben Nevis in Scotland in five hours, Scafell Pike in England in three and a half hours and Snowdon in Wales in just under four hours.

Chris added: “While we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, the main objective was to raise funds for the Calvert Trust, a charity which provides accessible activity holidays for disabled people. We’d like to say a big ‘thank you’ to everyone who has made a donation.”

The Calvert Trust aims to challenge disability through adventure and organises outdoor adventure activities and holidays for disabled people, their families and friends.

Donations continue to stream in and well wishers are encouraged to visit www.justgiving.com/summitsup to make a contribution. The website will remain live until mid August ‘08.
