Catch of the century

07/07/2008

Huge rainbow trout will be stocked into a Northumbrian Water reservoir this month (July) to celebrate its 100th anniversary.

Captors of the five monster trout – which will each weigh between 15 and 20 pounds – will land special and valuable prizes.

The names of the anglers who catch the five giant trout at Fontburn reservoir, near Rothbury, Northumberland, will go into a draw.

First name out of the hat will win a season ticket for next year for all Northumbrian Water fisheries worth £695.

Luxury log cabin weekend breaks at Leaplish in Kielder Water & Forest Park will be won by the next three names drawn.

And the final lucky angler will win a free family day’s fishing at any Northumbrian Water premier fishery.

Fontburn Ranger, Will Lovat, said: “We think this competition will be popular with the regular customers and also help create some new interest in fishing at the reservoir.

“Fontburn has a reputation for big fish but these beauties should be the biggest by far caught at the reservoir this season.”

The competition will run from 14 July to 31 August. Terms and conditions apply to the prizes on offer and winners photographs may be used for promotional purposes.
