Discovering superhero powers

31/01/2008

A North East museum has been discovered by a gang of water superheroes.

Northumbrian Water’s H2O Gang has set up an exhibition at Discovery Museum in Newcastle to educate children about the world of water.

Characters Karl, fourteen, Kelly, thirteen, Jermaine, seven, Bethany, five, and Splash the dog, who make up the H2O Gang, want to educate children who visit the museum about the importance of drinking enough water and remind them not to waste this precious resource.  The exhibition will be on display until Sunday, February 24 2008.

Each superhero has a super power which is activated when they drink tap water – vital for combating their arch enemies, Dr Dry, and his henchman, Drip, who are evil and want to rule the world by stealing or wasting all water.  It is up to the H2O Gang to stop them!

Northumbrian Water’s Alison Mosquera said: "The superheroes help educate children throughout the region in a fun and appealing way. The overall message is that water is precious.

“Children who visit the superhero exhibition at Discovery Museum also have the opportunity to enter a competition by colouring in their favourite H2O Gang character.  The closing date for the competition is Friday, February 29 2008 and prizes on offer include colouring sets and H2O Gang goody bags.”

Graham Bradshaw, curator of Discovery Museum, said: “As the region’s most popular free museum, Discovery Museum is the perfect place for an exhibition like this, which is both fun and educational.”

The H2O Gang, always stalked by the evil Dr Dry and Drip, make learning about the world of water fun, by visiting schools, through an interactive CD-ROM, a series of comics and they also feature on Northumbrian Water’s website, www.nwl.co.uk.
In the North East top quality drinking water and treatment of what occurs naturally is often taken for granted.  Through Northumbrian Water’s education programme, children in the region learn that they are fortunate and also about the health benefits of drinking water.
