Six North East businessmen will tune in to save lives at a glittering charity event.
Northumbrian Water’s managing director, John Cuthbert, and fellow band members David Haley, head of client management at BT, Andrew Dixon, chief executive of NewcastleGateshead Initiative, Paul Campbell, chief executive of The Amazing Group, Peter Rea, health and safety manager at Newcastle International Airport and Ian Ramsay Lawson, managing director at Ramsay Industrial Services will shake, rattle and roll at the water company’s ball.
The Viva Las Vegas-themed night, which will raise money for Northumbrian Water’s adopted international charity, WaterAid, is to be held at the Marriott Gosforth Park Hotel, Newcastle, on Friday, June 1 2007.
It’s now or never for businesses from across the region to take up the opportunity to be all shook up and see the band, 55°, perform by buying a table of ten for £850 or individual £85 tickets, at this top regional charity event.
One rock ‘n’ roll charity party-goer will have the chance to win a luxury all-expenses-paid-holiday to Las Vegas worth thousands of pounds, including a visit to ‘The King’s’ home, Graceland.
Dance steps in blue suede shoes on the night will stop children and women, in Africa and Asia, having to walk miles and miles in the searing heat to collect water that can kill their family and provide effective, safe sanitation and hygiene education. It costs just £15.00 to provide a child with these basic human rights for life – the cost of a music CD.
Northumbrian Water’s John Cuthbert, on guitar and vocals, said: “In the North East we take for granted that at the turn of a tap we have good quality water and when we flush the toilet what comes naturally is treated and returned safely to the environment. Millions of people in Africa and Asia don’t have these basic human rights. By supporting this event businesses have the chance to change that and give people hope and a future.
“I am delighted our band, 55°, is going to perform and play a part in raising money for WaterAid. We will play for about an hour and our aim is to get people up on the dance floor. Everyone will recognise the set which will mix songs from times gone by with some perhaps more surprising recent numbers.”
NewcastleGateshead Initiative’s Andrew Dixon, on keyboard, said: “The band started after some of us sang together at a fundraising event at Kielder Water. We only perform at charity events and the WaterAid ball, apart form being an important cause, has become one of the most enjoyable nights in the North East Calendar.”
Northumbrian Water would like to thank its platinum and diamond WaterAid sponsors Lumsden & Carroll Construction, EC Harris, Nalco, JN Bentley Limited, Fastflow and Gowland Dawson for their on-going support.
