Work to reduce the risk of property flooding is soon to begin in Middlesbrough.
Northumbrian Water will begin work to construct a 500-metre section of new sewer in the Ravenscroft Avenue area of Middlesbrough on Monday, July 3.
In times of extremely heavy rainfall the sewerage network has struggled to cope with the volume of water and this has resulted in flooding to properties in Ravenscroft Avenue, Emerson Avenue and The Avenue.
Customers are invited to find out more about this work and raise any questions or concerns they may have at a customer information session on Monday, June 26 at The Masonic Hall (Orchard function room), Roman Road, Middlesbrough between 5.00pm and 7.00pm.
The improvement programme, which will cost £700,000 and take up to seven months to complete, is part of Northumbrian Water’s £380 million programme (between 2005 – 2010) to upgrade its vast sewerage network serving the North East.
Will Barnett, Northumbrian Water’s project manager, said: “Reducing the risk of property flooding is one of Northumbrian Water’s priorities over the next five years. We appreciate that it does cause customers distress.
“The new section of sewer we will be constructing in will run along the eastbound carriageway of Emerson Avenue and in a small section of Ravenscroft Avenue. A section of the new pipe will also be tunnelled underneath Marton West Beck.
“Over the next couple of days customers in the area will receive information in writing about the work and an invitation to the customer information session next week.”
It will be necessary to have temporary traffic lights in place on Emerson Avenue and Ravenscroft Avenue to carry out this essential improvement work.
