Tap water is being bottled for the North East’s biggest music festival to raise life-saving money.
Northumbrian Water’s bottled tap water, 97, which is bottled at Villa in Sunderland, is being bottled and branded for Orange Evolution 12-day music festival, which starts tomorrow on Newcastle’s Quayside.
The festival, which culminates on Bank Holiday Monday, May 29, will support the sale of more than 20,000 bottles of tap water to thousands of thirsty music fans. For every bottle sold a percentage will be donated to WaterAid.
WaterAid, Northumbrian Water’s adopted international charity, will not only receive donations from the sale of 97, but will also raise funds from a number of other activities including text messages, entry ticket sales and generous donations on the day.
Joanne Dye, Northumbrian Water’s Communications Adviser, said: “Orange Evolution is a great opportunity to raise funds for WaterAid. People in Africa and Asia are desperate for our help. We take our water for granted – a turn of a tap and clean, healthy water is instantly available. People in the developing world have to walk miles to get water – dirty disease-infested water. Music fans can help some of the world's poorest people as they enjoy the festival.
“Tap water throughout our supply area, from Berwick to North Yorkshire across to the Pennines, is top quality. Bottling ‘97’ for Orange Evolution gives us the opportunity to encourage people to drink more water while enjoying the music from some of the UK’s biggest bands.”
Water is a healthy calorie-free drink – the name reflects the 97 tests that the water goes through before reaching customers’ taps.
WaterAid provides safe, clean domestic water, sanitation and hygiene education in Africa and Asia. A child dies every 15 seconds from disease caused by dirty water and it only costs £15 to provide someone with a clean water supply and sanitation for life in the developing world.
