Derwent is to remain open even longer this season from 30th November to Sunday 17th December and during these 3 weeks for the first time in the reservoir’s history coarse angling is to be allowed.
Don Coe, Operations Manager - Waterside Parks, said: “Over the last couple of seasons a population of roach has proliferated in the water. Many of these fish are approaching specimen sizes in excess of a pound and have probably never seen a hook before”.
“This could well prove to be a unique opportunity for all serious silver fish anglers in the region, its not often a new water becomes available. The trout anglers have caught quite a few in recent months on worms, we expect to see some decent catches if a specialist approach is taken.”
All normal coarse fishing methods, including loose feeding will be permitted (during this extended period only). Anglers should ask at the lodge for roach fishing details, a coarse permit will cost £6 for the day. Any trout caught by roach anglers must be returned unharmed.
Trout fishing permits will cost £10 for fly and multi-bait and will be available from the fishing lodge 7 days a week from 9.00am to 3.00pm.
Sport this November has been simply superb, both fly and bait anglers are still returning a rod average of 2 fish per angler. Some catches over 20lbs have been recorded including individual fish over 6lbs in weight. With more stockings to come with 2lb fish and settled weather, good sport should be enjoyed right up to the last cast.
Areas on both the North and South shore will be available for coarse and multi-bait fishing.
The tackle shop will also be open during these times for all those last minute Christmas presents.
