Millions of pounds are to be pumped into improving thousands of customers’ water supplies.
Northumbrian Water is investing £3.5 million upgrading more than 60km of water main, which serves more than 3,500 properties, in the Ponteland, Darras Hall, Woolsington and Kenton Bank Foot area of Newcastle upon Tyne.
The scheme, which will begin in April, will take about nine months to complete and will improve and maintain water quality and water pressure, reduce leakage and safeguard the water supplies for future generations.
Customers and journalists are invited to come and find out more about the work and to raise any questions or concerns they may have at a customer information day on Wednesday 9 March at the Ponteland Memorial Hall, Darras Road, Ponteland from 12.00pm to 7.00pm.
Every effort will be made to keep disruption and inconvenience to a minimum. Customers should ring the Northumbrian Water Customer Contact Centre on 08457 171100 if they have any queries or concerns.
It is very unlikely that anyone from Northumbrian Water will need access into a customer’s home while this improvement work is carried out. Bogus callers, people who claim to work for ‘the water company’ or ‘the water board’, are only interested in stealing from customers’ homes and are known to operate in Northumbrian Water’s supply area.
Customers should be extra vigilant before letting anyone into their home while this work is carried out – they should check identification carefully and ring the Northumbrian Water Customer Contact Centre if they would like to confirm the person on their doorstep is genuine. If in doubt - keep them out.
