Male voice choristers are now singing along to the notes of their new piano.
All 27 members of Hexham Male Voice Choir are celebrating their brand new piano bought with a £2,000 grant from Northumbrian Water’s Pipeline Fund.
Earlier this year the Pipeline Fund was set up awarding over £150,000 to many different community projects in Hexham and the surrounding areas.
Amounts were awarded as good will gestures of the water company after severe weather conditions caused the loss of water supply to those areas in January 2005.
Tom Arthur, organiser and leader of the choir, said: “This is the best thing that has happened for the choir. The piano we have been awarded through Northumbrian Water’s Pipeline Fund is excellent, we are ecstatic!
“It is a beautiful piece of equipment which allows us to practice every Thursday night and carry out concerts with confidence – knowing the piano is in tune rather than hired out-of-tune pianos!”
The choir was founded in 1948 and is still going strong after 57 years with many fans who follow them around the region.
The choir whose members are aged from 55 to 87 year-old have recently enjoyed festive singing at their Christmas carol concert at the Beacon Club, Hexham, with many more concerts ahead for them in the New Year.
