Tapping into cash

21/12/2005

The festive season will be one thousand times better for two water customers from the North East.

Peter Williams, 51, from Peterlee and Graham Scott, 43, from Newcastle, entered into a free prize draw when they signed up to pay their water bill by direct debit.

The lucky duo were up against more than 14,000 Northumbrian Water customers, from Berwick down to North Yorkshire and across to the Pennines, who have also signed up for the first time to pay their water bills the easy way.

Retired fireman, Peter, said:  “This is the biggest prize I have ever won and it has come just at the right time – I have to pay for our holiday to Turkey next year soon!  My wife to is thank for the money as she deals with the bills – direct debit is convenient and no hassle.”

Graham, who lives in Forest Hall, said:  “My winnings are going to be spent on a coy carp fish which will cost a few hundred pounds – I have a pond in my garden which holds 6,500 thousand gallons of water.  Winning this money from the water company seems quite appropriate!  Direct debit is definitely the way forward – you don’t have to worry about your bills being paid on time.”

More than 800,000 of Northumbrian Water customers have so far chosen this no-hassle method to pay their water bill and receive the added bonus of a £5.50 annual discount.  Customers who wish to change their method of payment to direct debit should ring the Northumbrian Water customer centre on 0845 733 5566.
