Bottled water on tap

24/08/2005

Tap water is being bottled by Northumbrian Water to promote drinking water for a healthy life.

More than twenty thousand of the not-for-sale 500ml bottles have been distributed free to a variety of outlets and it has proved so popular that another bottling order has already been placed.

The tap water, bottled at a plant in Durham City, has to be technically described as ‘still table water’ and is branded under the label of ‘97’.

Its name reflects the 97 tests that the water goes through from its treatment from the raw material to the final product which flows from the taps of Northumbrian Water’s 2.6 million customers from Berwick down to North Yorkshire and across to the Pennines.

Carrying the slogan “Let water flow into your life” the Northumbrian bottled tap water promotes the quality of the product and its value for money. Customers of Northumbrian Water can fill 50 glasses of water a day from the tap in their home for just 1p.

The refillable 500ml bottles contain a quarter of the daily amount of water recommended for people to drink for a healthy life.

Alistair Baker, Northumbrian Water’s Communications and PR Manager said: “Tap water is tip top quality and customers can take it for granted when they turn on the tap. It also represents amazing value for money.

“Putting it in bottles gives us the opportunity to share our splendid product in a convenient way for people to drink in any location - both indoors or out. It also helps us to promote the serious message of the importance of drinking enough water for a healthy life. Bottled tap is brilliant!”

Some 70 different outlets have been supplied with bottles of ‘97’ such as fun runs, walks, rambles, council events, clubs, groups, schools and sporting tournaments, charity activities, fetes and picnics.
