Northumbrian Water is a fully committed environmental organisation which has attained an excellent reputation in the way that it balances biodiversity interests with operational needs. Through in-house management tools, ecological surveys, site management and partnership working we are able to safeguard biodiversity interests and wherever possible look for opportunities for enhancement.
The need to safeguard biodiversity can also be seen in evolving environmental legislation, including the recent Natural Environment and Rural Communities Act (NERC) which includes a duty for public bodies to maintain and, where feasible, enhancing biodiversity.
We will use this section of the website to demonstrate how we have maintained or enhanced biodiversity by including a number of case studies on specific sites where recent activity has been undertaken.
