Northumbrian Water provides water and sewerage services to 2.6 million people in the north east of England. In the north east we generally have sufficient water for our customers’ needs.
Water companies are required to prepare a ‘Water Resources Management Plan’ every five years, in accordance with guidance laid down by the Environment Agency. The plan shows how a water company intends to maintain the balance between supply and demand for water over the next twenty five years.
The ‘Water Resources Management Plan’ is complimented by the ‘Drought Plan’, which water companies are required to produce every three years. This plan sets out the short term operational steps a company will take as a drought progresses.
