The IPPC Directive (EC/61/96) was introduced across Europe from the end of October 1999 to improve the standard of environmental protection. The government, through Pollution, Prevention and Control (PPC) regulations, will require only certain industrial processes to be permitted by 2007.
The purpose of the Directive is to achieve integrated prevention and control of pollution arising from certain industrial processes. It lays down measures designed to prevent emissions and waste production, or where that is not practical, to reduce them to acceptable levels.
Northumbrian Water hosted two seminars, 1st July 2003 at Kingston Park, Rugby Club and 8th July 2003 at the Samsung Conference Centre, Wynyard with key speakers covering IPPC Legislation, Process Audit and Waste Minimisation and Environmental Monitoring and Reporting.
