Imagine a world without toilets or taps. Where would you get your water? How would you know it was safe to drink? And, where would you go to the toilet?
That is a reality for billions of people in the developing world.
1.1 billion people don’t have access to clean, safe water - this is roughly one sixth of the world’s population.
2.6 billion people don’t have anywhere safe, hygienic and private to go to the toilet - this is roughly two fifths of the world’s population.
A child dies every 15 seconds from water related diseases. That is 5,760 every day or the equivalent of 20 jumbo jets full of children crashing every day. Imagine the outcry if we saw that on the news!
WaterAid is an international charity dedicated to helping people escape the stranglehold of poverty and disease caused by living without safe water and sanitation.
WaterAid's vision is of a world where everyone has access to safe water and effective sanitation.
WaterAid works by helping local organisations set up low cost; sustainable projects using appropriate technology that can be managed by the community itself.
WaterAid works in 17 countries throughout sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. These are Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan, Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Mali, Mozambique, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Madagascar, Malawi, Ghana and Nigeria.

WaterAid Big Birthday Bash
To celebrate WaterAid’s 30th birthday there is a silent auction for lots of fabulous one off, exclusive packages. Whether you fancy yourself as a chef in waiting, a collector of sporting memorabilia or just want something a little different to stuff an oversize Christmas stocking with, this could be the auction for you.
All you need to do is look at the list (PDF below), pick a prize and text your bid. Include your item number, bid and name in your text and join the fun and save a life in the process!
