Metered charges

Understanding your bill as a domestic metered customer

77p a day or £282 for the year starting 1st April 2011 is the average bill for domestic customers on a meter.  This covers the cost of supplying your clean water and the removal and treatment of your wastewater.  If you pay by Direct Debit directly to us, this amount is reduced by up to £6.00.

Household charges

Your metered water and sewerage services bills are in two parts:
• a fixed charge
• a charge for the amount you use (usage) measured in cubic metres.  (a cubic metre is 1,000 litres or 220 gallons).

For water you pay:

• a fixed charge of £35.70 per year plus
• a charge of 105.38p per cubic metre

For sewerage you pay:

• a fixed charge of £77.00 per year plus
• a charge of 97.42p per cubic metre

Sewerage charges cover the removal, treatment and disposal of foul (used) water and surface water (rainwater) from your property and a highway drainage charge.

If no surface water from your property drains to our sewer and you already pay sewerage charges then you may be entitled to claim for an allowance of £42.40 for 2011/12.  If you believe you are eligible to apply for an allowance, you can download an application form. Alternatively, you can contact our Customer Centre on 0845 733 5566.

Are you paying too much?

There are government regulations to protect you if you or someone in your household receives certain benefits or tax credits and live in a property with a water meter.  To qualify for WaterSure, you must also have three or more children up to 19 years old in full-time education who live with you, or someone in your household who has a medical condition which means they use a lot of water. If this applies to you, you do not have to pay more than the average household bill - you could save money.

Please visit the WaterSure webpage for more information or call our Customer Centre on
