Northumbrian Water won a silver medal at the Chelsea Flower Show 2007. The Northumbrian Water garden 'water is precious' received many favourable comments and praise from the viewing public.
You may be surprised that a garden conceived in, and representing, the wet north east of England should take as its theme ‘water is precious’. However, we feel that it is vital that everyone understands how precious water is to life and to all its aspects. Without water there would be no life. Without clean water there would be ill health and little wealth. Parts of the world today still don’t have clean water and there is ill health and therefore no chance of wealth.
We are fortunate to have plenty of water in the north east of England but we must protect this most precious resource. The climate is changing and every drop we waste also wastes the energy used to treat and deliver it and treat it again when you dispose of it.
Northumbrian Water and Gateshead Council are proud to work together in this special relationship to impart the important messages within our garden in such an innovative way. The garden can been seen by local residents at the Gateshead Flower Show in July.
